Song of the Day, June 19th

Joel Plaskett, "Happen Now"

Husband: "What are you listening to?"
Me: "Joel Plaskett."
Husband: "What's he like?"
Me: "Uh...CanCon singer-songwriter."
Husband: "Like Ron Sexsmith?"
Me: "Yeah, but skinnier." (Not saying Ron is fat, but rather Joel is really skinny.)

Actually, this song has more of a Blue Rodeo feel to it.

Song of the Day, June 18th

Hey, it's the blog name's inspiration!
Kitchens of Distinction, "Here Come the Swans"

Beautiful song.

Joel Plaskett, "Natural Disaster"

Here's a song about Hurricane Juan. I never thought about hurricanes in the Maritime Provinces. Music can be educational. Great song, too.

A couple of similarly-named songs to catch up:

Tragically Hip, "Nautical Disaster"

Day for Night is still my favorite Hip CD.

Song of the Day, June 15th

The Special AKA, "Free Nelson Mandela" (Remix)

Keeping with the South African theme...

Edit: Husband: "Isn't he already free?" I guess he didn't watch as much MTV as I did when he was a wee one.

Getting caught up!
This video should be an obvious choice for this month's big sporting event. As a bonus, I'm including a YT clip that contains both Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out" & Air Miami's "World Cup Fever." Yes, that FF song has nothing to do with footie, but it's a great tune.

Song of the Day, June 13th

Yes, I realize this a few days late. :P

Arkells, "Pulling Punches"
"Do you strike those years from the record?/Or do you take 'em face to face?"

CanCon! Great song.

Song of the Day, June 12th

"I wish that I believed in fate / I wish I didn't sleep so late"

I don't ever want to go to a music festival--just looking at all those people is enough to give me a panic attack--but I like the idea of a music festival, so I'm grateful for modern technology to bring something like Bonnaroo to my uncrowded living room.

Song of the Day, June 11th

Oh hai.
Summer vacation (sort of) is here, so time once again to dust off the blog cobwebs.
I swear I've posted this video before, but if I did, it was a long time ago, and it's so good that a repeat wouldn't hurt any. Speaking of repeat, I can't stop listening to it.
